What is the issue?
Special local clauses, including scenic protection controls, are proposed for parts of the deferred lands without equivalent controls necessarily applying to comparable land elsewhere.
Why does WUFA disagree?
Local controls should respond to demonstrated planning circumstances, not simply the historic status of the deferred lands. Comparable landscapes should be treated comparably.
Key points
- Special controls require a clear evidence base.
- Scenic protection should be applied consistently.
- The deferred lands should not be singled out without justification.
- Locality statements should accurately describe existing roads, development and infrastructure.
WUFA recommendation
Remove or revise special controls that disproportionately affect the deferred lands unless Council demonstrates why those controls are necessary and consistently applied.
